Blog: Wiki So Far

With the Wiki project coming to a close, the amount of contributions I'm seeing on my page is enormous. Even the slightest changes are noted, and these fixes are incredible as well. To do my part, I've so far added a YouTube Original's section on the YouTube wiki page since this new program is experimental. Most of the shows funded by some of YouTube's most popular channels are being extended to match episodes, growing up to 20-25 minutes of content. Being in a class about new media, I think this recent addition from YouTube's Brandcast announcement would be a good thing to pay close attention to in the upcoming months. With television closely competing with online original content, we're seeing a change in media even on streaming services. Places like Netflix and Hulu also battle YouTube for the fight of online consumption, so we'll see how this Originals program plays out.

In addition, I hope to continue updating some sections about YouTube Red, since the year is coming to a close and more shows have been added to the premise. Since this is a paid monthly subscription, as opposed to Originals based on free consuming, I want to look into their recent revenue and how it correlates to how many people are actually paying in to watch their favorite YouTubers produce seasons of premium creative content. Again, we're seeing a change in YouTube every year and how they continue to disrupt the television series/video streaming industry by utilizing their very own users as collateral. Their influx of funding for these programs also prove that they're intent on becoming a serious competitor for other streaming/TV sites.
